The European Commission has approved €76 million in state aid for QuantumDiamonds GmbH to build the world’s first factory for quantum‑based chip test equipment in Munich, with total project investment of €152 million.

The company’s core technology is the quantum diamond microscope (QDM) – using nitrogen‑vacancy centers in diamond to non‑destructively map current distribution inside complex chip packages, a critical inspection solution for 2.5D and 3D advanced packaging.

The project will involve local SMEs, universities, and research institutes. It aligns with recent EU policy to strengthen domestic semiconductor, cloud, and AI supply chains.

ICgoodFind: EU funding for quantum‑based non‑destructive testing addresses a key gap in 3D advanced packaging, advancing European semiconductor independence.
