On July 22, Swiss automation and electrification giant ABB announced the acquisition of French SiC power conversion firm Advantics, headquartered in Saint-Genis-Pouilly. The deal is set to close in Q4 2026. Advantics develops integrated SiC-based power conversion solutions spanning hardware, firmware, and software for data centers, industrial microgrids, EV charging, and power generation.

The acquisition will expand ABB's DC power product portfolio, aligning with the projected rise of electricity's share in final energy consumption from 20% today to 36% by 2035 (IEA data). ABB noted that SiC-based DC systems significantly cut energy losses from repeated AC-DC conversions, boosting overall efficiency.

Advantics' mature SiC power module technology – with peak efficiency up to 99% – will strengthen ABB's ability to build next-gen electrical architectures with higher power density, stability, and energy performance. Combined with ABB's existing expertise in protection, distribution, and digital control, the integration enables high-efficiency DC systems tailored for storage and flexible grid scenarios.

Massimiliano Cifalitti, President of ABB's Smart Power division, emphasized that the acquisition deepens ABB's technology and talent investment to meet global electrification demand. Advantics founder and CEO Michal Elias noted that the two firms share aligned visions for SiC's transformative role in efficient power conversion.

ABB, with over 140 years of history and 110,000 employees globally, is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

From ICgoodFind: SiC is moving from niche to industrial-scale – and ABB just placed a big bet. With Advantics' 99% efficiency modules now inside ABB's portfolio, the demand for wide-bandgap power components is set to accelerate across data centers and industrial grids.
